My Story
My name is Dawson Amico
I live in Orlando, FL growing zone 9B/10A. Habitat Restoration is my true passion in life. Ever since I was a child I have taken an interest in growing plants. My growing journey started when I learned how to grow native milkweed from seed at age 18. It came from wanting to help the struggling monarch butterfly population. I loved sharing my milkweed plants with friends and gardeners alike.
In 2020 during the covid pandemic I began my composting journey and have since experimented with many different kinds of composting. In this same year I joined my friend in starting our own native, edible, and medicinal plant nursery in Oviedo called Monarch Urban Farm. Naturally, we cultivated a variety of native milkweed species.

September 2021 I accepted the Fleet Farming Manager position within the 501(c)(3) nonprofit IDEAS For Us. In this leadership position I managed over different 15 front yard microfarms and orchards for almost 3 years. My farming efforts included crop planning, seasonal crop rotation, oversight of farmers market operations, volunteer supervision, as well as the ongoing managment and infrastructure improvements of these greenspaces. I also developed and taught a series of hands-on dynamic classes within the Fleet Farming program, known as the Living Learning Classes.

As the founder of Hospitable Harvests, I aim to share my knowledge and passion for sustainable growing with others. You can think of me as your personal garden coach! Whether you're just beginning your gardening journey or seeking to enhance your skills; I am here to assist and support you at any stage of the process you need guidance.
